Analytical Exposition
Independent Construction of the Text (ICoT)
Independent Construction of the Text (ICoT)
Students are tasked with writing an independent Analytical Exposition by choosing a topic relevant to the model text but from their own perspective.
Topic Options:
The Danger of "Buy Now, Pay Later" Apps for Teenagers.
Why Schools Should Include Financial Planning in the Curriculum.
The Importance of Learning Digital Investment for Beginners.
Before writing, students perform an independent listening task to gather ideas:
Audio Research: Students find one short video or podcast related to their chosen topic.
Listening Log: Students must note down 3 facts or data points (similar to the "60%" statistic in the model text) that they heard to use as evidence in their writing.
Once the text is finished, students engage in a final interactive activity:
The "Listener" Test: Students read their text aloud to a partner. The partner must listen and identify: "What is the Thesis?" and "What evidence was used?"
Self-Correction: Based on the oral feedback from their partner, students refine parts of their text that may not sound persuasive enough.
