Independent Construction of the Text (ICoT)
The teacher plays a new audio clip (e.g., "How to Make a Tropical Mango Juice") that follows the same structure as the Avocado Smoothie text.
Task for Students:
Individual Listening: Students listen to the new text twice.
Note-taking: While listening, they must independently fill out a blank "Procedure Map."
Student Instructions: "Listen to the recording twice. Identify the goal, ingredients, and the correct sequence of steps."
Goal : [Student writes: .................]
Ingredients [ Student notes: .................]
Steps : [Student writes the sequence using: First ......... Next .............. Then .............. etc.]
o maintain the Interactive aspect of the approach, students participate in a paired challenge after listening:
Student A: Explains steps 1–3 of what they heard to Student B.
Student B: Explains step 4 through the end to Student A.
The Goal: They must combine their information to reconstruct the full recipe without looking at the answer key.
Teacher: "I will read the recipe again, but I might make mistakes. Shout 'STOP' if you hear something wrong!"
Teacher: "...Next, fry the mango in the pan."
Student: "....................! Not fry, but put it in the blender!"
Teacher: "Excellent. You caught the wrong verb."
