The teacher asks students to close their eyes.
Teacher: (Plays audio of a dense forest, flowing water, and frogs/swamp sounds). "Open your ears. You are in Karawang, but there are no malls. No Galuh Mas, no factories. What do you see in your mind?"
Student: .................................
Teacher: "Exactly. It was a ................. It was a .................. Let's write that:.................."
The teacher tells the story in a narrative style (students do not have the text yet).
Teacher: "Imagine you are a Portuguese sailor on a big ship. You see a land full of water and mud. You shout to your friends: 'Look! A Caravam!' Or maybe you hear locals say 'Karaba-wang'. What does it mean?"
Student: ....................
Teacher: "Yes! The ..................... If you lived there, would it be easy to build a house?"
Student: ....................
The teacher reads the Rengasdengklok section using a whispering, tense voice.
Teacher: (Whispering) "It was 1945. The night was silent. The youth took Soekarno and Hatta to a small house in Rengasdengklok. They were hiding. The air was thick with tension..."
Instruction: "Raise your hand if the story sounds scary or exciting!"
Student: ....................
Teacher: "Why is it risky? What if they were caught by the invaders?"
Student: ....................
The teacher says a word, and students must shout the opposite or a related word based on the "sound" of the story they just heard.
Teacher: "Factories!" X Student: .........................
Teacher: "Peaceful swamp!" X Student: .........................
Teacher: "Swampy Land!" X Student: .........................
The teacher mentions names from the text, and students provide one adjective they sensed from the teacher's tone of voice.
